Excerpt

Despina knew Tavis O’Connor’s tastes and his vices. He was a high-end gambler and a low level con man. He bet on horses and sports, was a cheat at cards and had spent his school years hustling pool. The son of a grifter, he knew how to con the foolish and the greedy before he could drive. He enjoyed fast cars, expensive liquor, was an occasional drug user and heterosexual. He’d indulged in menage a few times and had participated in mild bondage if the mood struck him. Despina found his history rather boring, but corrupting a soul was demon fun. Soon she’d be joining the ranks of the Wickeds and rule her own domain.

Wearing three-inch heels and a red, backless sundress that barely covered her ass, Despina smiled as the hospital doors slid open. An orderly pushing a man in a wheelchair appeared.

Despina’s breath caught as Tavis rose from the wheelchair. Syere had given Despina the necessary information to corrupt her mark. What he hadn’t prepared her for was Tavis in the flesh.

The gambler was tall, broad shouldered and a looker. His black hair brushed his collar. His eyes were icy blue and his gaze sexy hot. He had a lean face, a firm jaw and a sensual mouth that promised pleasure.

Despina hoped he looked as good naked as he did in a blue scrub shirt and ripped jeans. “You look like you could use a ride.”

His lips curved in a sexy grin that told her he’d caught her double entendre.

Despina reached out and touched his arm. Their gazes locked and Despina knew she had him. While taking human form, demons exuded a powerful aphrodisiac. Only the pure of heart or the exceptionally strong willed were capable of resisting the demonic lure of raw lust.

The smile left his face, replaced by a determined set of his jaw. “No, thanks. Mass is about to start.” He walked away, leaving Despina standing on the sidewalk.

Mass?

Her future was riding on the handsome Irishman, and he wasn’t getting away. Despina started to follow him, then realized he was heading for the church across the street. Unable to step foot on the hallowed ground, Despina deliberately took a tumble. Her pain-filled cry brought him running back.

“Are you okay?”

“I caught my heel.” She willed her left ankle to swell just a bit. Despina held out her hand. “If you’d be so kind and help me up?”

He slipped an arm around her waist and lifted her. “Do you think you can stand?”

Despina winced as if in pain and clutched his upper arm for support. “I just twisted my ankle a bit. Nothing serious.”

“Your ankle is swelling. You should ice it.”

Despina shuddered at the thought of ice touching her skin. “If you’d help me to my car, I’ll be fine.”

“Sure. Where are you parked?”

She pointed to the low-slung red vehicle across the street.

“Great car. I had one just like it in green.”

Despina had chosen the same model as the car Tavis had wrecked. “I love the power, but I keep getting speeding tickets.”

“I got a few of those,” Tavis said, securing her by the waist.

He supported her across the street and opened the driver’s door. Then Tavis dropped down, pretending to admire the interior of her car when he was really watching a black luxury sedan glide past at a reduced rate of speed.

The driver gave Despina an admiring glance then turned his attention back to the entrance of the hospital. The black car turned into the parking lot. Despina looked at Tavis and saw a hint of panic. She didn’t know who was driving the luxury sedan, but she knew Tavis wanted to avoid him.

Interview with Holly Hewson

HH:  BJ, thank you so much for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is Demon Seduction. Where did you get the idea for this sizzling romance?

BJ: I created a demon world for Demon Treat, my Halloween book in Changeling Press’ Trick or Treat series. I liked my demon domain so much I wanted to write another book. At the end of Demon Treat, my heroine, Hekka, earns a chance for redemption. Just like in the real world, when an executive spot opens there are many who want the job.

My heroine in Demon Seduction wants Hekka’s domain and she’s willing to corrupt a soul to get what she wants.

HH:   What can you tell us about Despina and why will readers identify with her?

BJ: Despina is trying to improve her lot and be promoted to a Wicked. She has no illusions about herself. She’s done things to land in Perdition, but down deep she’s still capable of love. Claiming Tavis’ soul is the means to her goal, but she has a weakness for handsome bad boys.

HH: What do you like best about Tavis and why will readers love him?

BJ: A loner by nature, Tavis likes living on the edge, but a visit to Perdition makes his future clear. He knows he has to change his ways. Just as Tavis hits bottom, when he really needs a friend, he meets Despina and finds a kindred spirit. We’ve all faced situations that challenge us, but Tavis must decide whether Despina is his salvation or his decline.

HH: What makes this story different from your other works?

BJ: I’ve written stories with demons, but the demon characters are usually villains. The uniqueness of Demon Seduction and Demon Treat is that the demons are the heroines. Despina works for the devil and she’s after a human soul. The challenge is making an evil heroine likeable.

HH:  What do you think about its reception so far?

BJ: Readers are buying the book, but so far I haven’t received a review. I’m very pleased with the story and love my characters.

HH:  What else do you have in store for lucky readers?

BJ: Vazan Vampires (Collection) has just been released by Changeling Press. The anthology includes three of my books: Sinful Urges, Hunting Evil and Heartfire.

This month Kiss of Fire, a dragon tale, will be part of the Bedtime Stories anthology, featuring five Changeling authors.

Caught, the 5th book in my Dragonfire series will be published by Changeling Press in March.

HH:   What can you tell us about day-to-day life for you as an author?

BJ: Besides all the normal things like housework, I walk daily. Usually, I write every day and if I’m lucky with my time, I try to squeeze in a bit of promotion.

HH:  What are you reading now?

BJ: This Town by Mark Leibovich. Washington D.C. is an interesting place.

HH: What appearances do you have coming up in 2014?

BJ: Since I write mainly Ebooks, the old days of book signings are gone. I’m sorry to say I do not plan to attend conferences this year.

HH: Where can readers find you online?

BJ: I have a website www.bjmccall.com and a yahoo group, RedHotRomance. I guest blog on various sites during the year like Changeling Press blog and ARe Café. I’ve been a guest blogger for wonderful authors like Kate Hill, Tina Donahue, Delilah Devlin and Cynthia Sax.

I often participate in the TRS Release Parties and on the monthly TRS party for Changeling Press.
